Ensemble was an AHRC funded project undertaken with Sara Kettley.

Ensemble is a combined sound and jewellery installation. The eight networked pieces of theatrical jewellery were enabled using ‘Specked Computing’, sensing movement and touch and controlling associated elements of the larger soundscape. Exploring the control of personal information in social interactions, the interactive objects highlighted the ways in which self-determination can take place through sound and ‘demeanour’ as they are worn on the body. A short narrative on the theme of jewellery was more or less masked by the soundscape, awaiting discovery through turn taking and play, future versions of the work may invite audience members to add their own thoughts to this narrative. The jewellery has been developed as examples of contemporary craft, combining a novel networking technology with bench test techniques and a maker’s unique visual language.
