During the last decade technical advances, deregulation, accountability and increased trade freedom have had a profound impact on the business world. In addition, improved customer proximity means that competitive firms must gauge performance and benchmark activity more than ever before, and there is a growing recognition of the contribution that efficient information services make to the balance sheet. As a result, improvements are sought in the established business information sources. The transition from print to electronic media has further raised awareness of the value of information. This introductory textbook takes the form of a review of the UK business information landscape. It aims to provide business information managers with an understanding of UK industrial structures and practice, and to equip them with strategies for selecting the best printed and electronic business information sources. It will help users to select information that will facilitate better decision-making, exploit new business opportunities, and save time and money. Organised into four parts, it analyses the context in which businesses operate; advises how information sources are defined; evaluates the major business sources; and outlines sources related to key legislation, business regulations and control. | |
